PPFD League Settings Tool: Compare Two Scoring Formats Side by Side

If your league is switching to points per first down (PPFD) scoring, the hardest part isn’t the concept. It’s figuring out which settings actually fit your league. A 0.5 PPFD league plays very differently than a full 1.0 PPFD league, and the difference shows up fastest at running back and tight end. This free tool lets you build two scoring formats side by side and see exactly how player values shift between them.

Where to Start: Common PPFD Scoring Tiers

Most leagues new to PPFD get stuck at the same question: how many points per first down is actually reasonable? There’s no single right answer, but most leagues land in one of three tiers depending on how much they want first downs to move the needle.

Tier Point Value Per First Down Best Fit Why It Works
Light Touch 0.5 Leagues layering PPFD onto an existing full PPR format Adds value to possession players without overturning your current rankings
Standard 0.75 Most leagues trying PPFD for the first time Meaningful shift toward high-floor players while keeping big-play upside relevant
Full Weight 1.0 Leagues that want first downs to carry real scoring weight Rewards volume and efficiency heavily, and changes your rankings the most

These are common starting points, not universal rules. The right setting for your league depends on what you’re already running for PPR, roster size, and starting requirements, which is exactly why guessing from a single cheat sheet only gets you so far. The tool below lets you plug in your league’s actual settings and see the real player-by-player impact.

How to Use the Tool

  1. Set up League A. Enter your current scoring settings, or the settings your league is considering moving away from.
  2. Set up League B. Enter the PPFD settings you’re considering, including point values for rushing, receiving, and passing first downs.
  3. Pick a projection source. Choose Yahoo, Sleeper, or ESPN, or run the same settings against two different sources to see how projections vary.
  4. Filter by position. Narrow the view to running backs, receivers, tight ends, or quarterbacks to see exactly where the two formats disagree.
  5. Compare the results. The tool lines up projections side by side so you can see which players gain value, which lose it, and by how much.

Why PPFD Settings Are Harder to Get Right Than They Look

Most scoring formats have a small number of reasonable defaults. PPFD doesn’t work that way. Because you’re setting separate point values for rushing, receiving, and passing first downs, small changes compound differently depending on your league’s existing PPR setting, roster size, and starting lineup requirements. A league running 0.5 PPFD on top of full PPR behaves nothing like a 1.0 PPFD league layered on standard scoring, even though both get called “PPFD” in casual conversation.

That’s why comparing settings side by side, rather than guessing from a single cheat sheet, gives you a much clearer picture of how your specific league will actually play out.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is PPFD in fantasy football?

PPFD stands for points per first down. Leagues using this format award bonus points any time a player records a rushing, receiving, or passing first down, in addition to standard yardage and touchdown scoring.

Is this tool really free?

Yes. The league comparison tool is free to use, with no account or sign-up required to run a comparison.

Which projection source should I use?

There’s no universally correct answer since Yahoo, Sleeper, and ESPN each build their projections differently. If your league drafts on a specific platform, start there. If you want a fuller picture, run the same settings against two sources and compare the spread.

I’m still not sure what PPFD settings to pick. Where should I start?

Check out our PPFD cheat sheet for recommended starting points, then use this tool to fine-tune those settings against your league’s exact scoring rules.
