Best Free Fantasy Football Resources and Tools

In addition to offering custom fantasy football advice using my own data, I would be silly not to utilize some of the amazing free resources which are readily available to the community. Below is a list of free fantasy football resources and tools that I love, some of which I have been personally using for years. Hopefully you’re able to get as much use from them as I do.

FAAB Fantasy Football Resources

For those in FAAB fantasy football leagues, knowing how much FAAB to bid is tricky. My process usually starts by choosing a FAAB amount using league historical trends as an initial guideline, then I use the following resources to gauge if I’m in the right ballpark:

The FAABLab

  • FAABLab displays the most popular waiver adds of the week and uses crowdsourced data to help create a bidding plan.
  • After you submit your theoretical FAAB bid for a specific player, the consensus data will appear.
  • This data includes average bid, median bid, most common bid, the number of user submissions, and more.

Faabtastic

  • Faabtastic is a FAAB cheat sheet which compiles FAAB suggestions from various fantasy experts.
  • Expert platforms include Fantasy Alarm, Fantasy Pros, Yahoo, Roto Baller, The Score, and more.
  • The cheat sheet is very well organized and easy to read, while also providing links to the original expert articles for further reading.

Resources for Weekly Fantasy Football Rankings

Even if you don’t have tough lineup choices to make, it’s still fun to see where your players rank for your weekly matchup. I personally don’t think sweating over which player to start in the FLEX matters all that much as this decision will rarely be the difference in your matchup, and even if it is, a list of rankings probably won’t help. There is so much weekly variance in fantasy football, therefore, just start the player you personally feel most confident in (as long as they’re in the same tier) and enjoy your Sunday mornings.

However, for those that like to stream kickers, defenses, and/or QBs, who you’re starting almost always changes weekly. When using this strategy, I defer to someone who is much smarter than I am:

Subvertadown

  • This reddit user has been using predictive models for 6+ years to help fantasy football players who choose to stream starters weekly.
  • Now with his own website, Subvertadown provides free weekly rankings for the common streaming positions (K, D/ST, QB) using statistical methodologies.
  • The full rankings list is paywalled but there is certainly more than enough free information provided to help with your positional streaming needs.

When I do want to look at weekly rankings, here are the resources I rely on:

Fantasy Football Tiers by Boris Chen

  • Boris Chen has created a fantasy football model using Fantasy Pros expert ranking data to create statistical clusters.
  • Similar to using tiers when drafting, this resource shows which cluster (or tier) each player belongs to for the current week. The higher the tier, the better they are likely to perform according to experts.

The Fantasy Blueprint by Underdog’s Hayden Winks

  • My personal favourite weekly rankings column, The Fantasy Blueprint is packed with awesome, informative visualizations for all positions.
  • The highlight here are the QB rankings, which include matchup specific charts for each QB vs. the opposing defense.

Andrew Cooper’s Tight End Rankings

  • If you don’t have a reliable tight end on your roster, choosing who to start weekly can be a miserable experience. Andrew Cooper, Lead NFL Analyst for Fantasy Alarm, provides extremely detailed analysis for the tight end position.
  • His rankings include weekly tiers, ROS projections, and even DFS picks.

Fantasy Football Start/Sit Resources

Technically these resources could be listed above with the weekly rankings resources but these tools are specifically designed to compare players when deciding on sit/start decisions.

Wise Guys Edge

  • Using Vegas betting lines, Wise Guys Edge allows users to compare up to five players and see the player props for each. This data can be used as another tool to see who is more likely to score a TD, get gain more yards, catch more passes, etc.
  • They also have defense rankings which displays the implied Vegas totals for each team.

Fantasy Pros Start/Sit

  • This tool has been around for a while and has recently become a premium feature, but the free version still provides plenty of help.
  • Simply compare two players and you will quickly see which % of experts prefer each player.
  • The rankings of each analyst are also displayed and you can filter the results using numerous accuracy options.

Fantasy Football Data Resources

For all the data nerds, here are some of my favourite resources which highlight player usage trends, weekly utilization, team tendencies, and more.

Underdog Fantasy Usage Model

  • This is the holy grail resource for player utilization in fantasy football.
  • Here you will find weekly visualizations for fantasy points vs. expected, positional usage per team, and my personal favourite, RB situational usage per team.
  • Looking at the boxscore does not tell the whole story and this resource helps to show which stats are sticky, and which are less likely to be repeatable.

Fantasy Life Utilization Report

  • This is a brand new resource which I have started using just a few days ago but it’s amazing.
  • Fantasy Life’s Utilization Report displays all the important usage metrics you need for every player, plus total season stats, and team tendencies. The UI is beautiful and very easy to interpret.
  • The game log feature is what I find most useful, which highlights if a player is being utilized more or less on a weekly basis, allowing you to spot trends before everyone else.

Trade Value Chart Resources

It can be difficult to determine if you’re offering or receiving fair value in a trade. Use these trade charts as an additional piece of information to gauge whether you’re getting fair value in a trade offer, or to identify a specific trade target.

The Score’s Fantasy: Trade Value Chart

  • This fantasy football trade value chart is updated by The Score’s Justin Boone, who has been one of Fantasy Pros most accurate analysts for over half a decade.
  • This trade chart shows values for single QB and 2QB leagues, while also displaying values for standard, half PPR, and PPR leagues.

CBS Fantasy Football Trade Chart

  • Entering its 13th season, this trade chart by CBS analyst Dave Richard is probably the most well known in the community.
  • The list also acts as a ROS ranking resource.

PeakedInHighSkool Trade Value Charts

  • The most popular trade chart for Reddit’s fantasy football community, PeakedInHighSkool has created a model combining expert and user data to generate redraft trade value charts.
  • Here you can find trade charts for standard, 0.5 PPR, and PPR leagues, as well as dynasty trade charts.
