Why Platform Values Matter
Auction values vary significantly across Yahoo, Sleeper, and ESPN, with each platform using its own algorithms and projections to generate player pricing. These differences create platform-specific inefficiencies where some players may be consistently undervalued or overpriced depending on where you draft. Understanding these discrepancies is key to spotting value, avoiding overpays, and gaining a competitive edge over your league mates during auction or salary cap drafts.
Sleeper Auction Value Insights
Sleeper is the best platform when it comes to adjusting draft room auction values based on the settings. Even if you’re drafting on another platform, knowing the Sleeper values will help you prepare for your draft for the following reasons:
- Sleeper correctly adjusts PPR auction values, increasing the projected values of wide receivers while devaluing RBs who aren’t likely to catch the football.
- Sleeper also correctly adjusts their superflex projected values to increase the price of QBs, however, it does not devalue other positions accurately.
- One limitation of Sleeper’s draft room is that superflex auction values remain the same regardless of whether the league is standard, half PPR, or full PPR. Identifying this oversight allows you to exploit value differences and gain an edge during your draft.
Yahoo Auction Value Insights
Yahoo’s auction draft room values do not adjust based on your league settings. Whether your league uses standard, full PPR, superflex, or custom scoring, Yahoo defaults to 0.5 PPR with a 1-QB format.
If you’re drafting on Yahoo, this presents a major opportunity. With static values that don’t reflect your league’s actual scoring, informed managers can gain a significant edge by generating custom auction values or using supplemental resources like Sleeper, FantasyPros, or Fantasy Football Helper.
ESPN Auction Value Insights
ESPN’s draft room auction values are not always accurate or responsive to custom league settings. For this reason, it’s strongly recommended that fantasy managers consult additional resources and compare multiple auction value sources to ensure more accurate, strategy-driven decisions on draft day.
- While ESPN does offer separate values for PPR formats, the differences from standard scoring are minimal, and in many cases, barely noticeable.
- ESPN’s superflex (or “Offensive Player Utility”) auction values are currently unreliable. Quarterback pricing is not accurately adjusted for superflex formats. For example, in 2024, Josh Allen’s projected value actually decreased when a superflex (OP) spot was added. This mispricing highlights the need to use external resources for more accurate superflex auction values.
